Central Arizona College partnership brings ASU teaching degrees to Pinal County

The inhabitants of the district, Pinal seek a career in the special school and primary school teachers now have a way of obtaining the baccalaureate and Arizona certification through a program of cooperation between Central Arizona College and Arizona State University.
The program enables the students to their counterparts of two years, the level of CVC in a bachelor ès arts in education and dual certification of teachers in primary schools and special education by the USS’s College in the training of teachers and the leadership (CTEL) without Pinal County.
“CTEL classes are online and by telephone conference to CVC and the campus,” says Holly Aguila, Title V Grant Manager CTEL. “The students are in the Pinal County elementary school classrooms and for their practical experience and training of students. The hope is that the schools where the students conduct their field work shall be terminated as soon as receive their diploma, is a great need to qualified special education teachers in Pinal County. ”
“It’s a classic win-win situation,” says Jenni Gonzales, CAC, Co-Director for the Title V, which has helped the partnership. “The ASU and the DAX a know-how in the preparation of teachers in the program. On the DAX, we have the technical infrastructure for interactive television in all classes, nine of our universities and centers, and the USS provides a high quality of the baccalaureate program, the certification of teachers.
“The final winners will be the college students, the teachers may be certified without a long journey, and the children in Pinal County schools will benefit from the talent of the teachers in this program.”
Aguila said that the program to two teaching certificates, it is particularly attractive. “The graduates for the requirements of Arizona, the basic and special education certification, giving them greater flexibility in their careers,” she says.
Once students complete degrees for a partner who can facilitate the USS part of the program in two academic years. During the first three semesters, they are on-line and video conferencing, with work on the ground in Pinal County classrooms, under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers. The fourth and final semester is student teaching.
Evening meeting will be at various locations in the province and in the DAX Signal Peak, Superstition Mountain and Aravaipa Campus.
