Online learning has advantages over face-to-face instruction when it comes to teaching and learning, according to a meta-analysis published last week by the United States Department of Education writes Scott Jaschik of Inside Higher Ed The study found that students who have part or all of the best results, on average, than those who take the same course in face to face through the instruction .
In addition, the “mixed” courses – those that combine elements of online learning and face-to-face instruction – seems to make the best of everything. This finding may be important because many schools report that co-education is one of the fastest rates of growth in enrollment.
The Department of Education has reviewed all types of education, and found that the number of valid analysis of primary and secondary school was too small to have much confidence in the results. But the results seem consistent (and statistically significant) for all types of higher education, and graduate, through a range of disciplines, the study said.
